I Know How Hard It Is To Be a New Instructional Coach
You Feel Alone
You are probably the only coach at your school. You have no one to connect with about coaching! Even if you are lucky enough to have another coach in your building, you still don't feel like anyone understands what you do.
You Feel Left Out
You aren't a teacher anymore and you aren't really an administrator. All of a sudden you've lost your place and don't feel like you fit in. After all these years of teaching, this feels like it you just can't find your place.
You're Facing Challenges
This job is hard. Not only are you facing Covid restrictions, long-term subbing, and putting out fires, you are also surprised by resistant teachers, micromanaging bosses, and lack of progress toward change in your school. You don't know how to overcome these challenges as a new coach.
You Don't Feel Equipped
No one provided you training or taught you how to coach. After 10 or more years in the classroom you are an expert in instruction, but teaching adults isn't the same as teaching students. You are realizing that you don't really know how to coach teachers. You wish someone would teach you how to do the coaching part of this job so you can make change happen at your school.
I've Been There As a New Coach
Girl, I have been there. Right where you are - surrounded by computers in my office and asking "what have I gotten myself into?"
Over seven years ago, I stepped out of my safe and joy-filled 7th grade English classroom and into a role as an Instructional Technology Coach.
Goodness, I was so excited! I was excited to help teachers see the power of technology in their classrooms! I was excited to help my new school implement BIG technology initiatives!
But everyone else was NOT so excited. I was bringing change and lots of it! They all wondered, "Who is this new girl trying to change what we've been doing and how we've always done it?" (even the admin!)
Yeah, that didn't go over well. I had a lot to learn about how to work with adults, how to coach teachers, how to respond to negativity and resistance, how to lead initiatives, and how to lead up to admin.
Let's just say, I learned A LOT!
But because of that learning, I was able to execute a three year technology initiative that transformed the school’s approach to technology integration (and prepared them to handle Covid closures last March!)
Then, I was asked to launch a new Instructional Coaching program. I led and trained a team of three full time coaches and four teacher coaches. We were able to provide unprecedented support to teachers at our school.
Then, I was then able to move to a new school in a new state to launch a new Instructional Coaching Program from the ground up!
I want to help you learn all these essential skills on your journey out of the classroom and into Instructional Coaching.
That's exactly why I'm offering you the opportunity to join my inner circle of New Instructional Coaches, The Breakthrough Circle, where I can help you make this transition from classroom to coaching more smoothly and become an effective leader and Instructional Coach. This is the place where you will find the coaching, training, and community you need to thrive as a new coach!
I have a heart for New Coaches because I know the mind and heart transformation that it takes to become a coach.
Nothing would make me happier than to have you join me and the amazing members who are already in the group!
Let's Breakthrough Together!
